Dothan Community Church - Dothan, AlabamaMinistry never comes from a vacuum. At Dothan Community Church, everything we do has a reason, and is ultimately connected to “Who We Are.”

If you condensed Dothan Community Church down to a purpose statement of one sentence, it would be this: “Children of God, having received Jesus Christ as our personal Savior; committed to God, the Bible, and each other; organized and functioning as a local church called Dothan Community Church.”

Dothan Community Church is located 8.2 miles from the Headland Town Square.

{tab History}

In 1980 W. Charles Lewis responded to God’s call to the ministry. Although accepted into medical school he chose rather to attend seminary to further prepare for the church planting ministry to which God had called him—a church that would be committed to clearly teaching the Scriptures. After graduating from seminary and ministering in Birmingham, AL, Charles and his wife Geraldine moved to Dothan in 1987 to begin the groundwork for Dothan Community Church. They were joined by Eddie and Angela Robinson, Evelyn Baskin, and Chester McFarland—all of whom relocated to Dothan to help in getting the church started.

dothan community church historyAfter meeting in the Lewises’ home for several months, Dothan Community Church was established in 1988 and by God’s design has been interracial from its inception. Having outgrown the Lewises’ home, the church met for several years at Dothan’s Northside Mall and later at the Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center (Lion’s Hall). DCC (as it is called) moved to its present location at 4390 Westgate Parkway in April, 2001. True to the original vision, Dothan Community Church continues to be a Bible-centered church in both word and deed.

In 1996 Dothan Community Church was still a small congregation, but believed in a big God! The church agreed to trust the Lord to build their first church facility debt-free. Over a four-year period the Lord provided in such supernatural ways through churches, ministries, individuals, pastors, contractors, businesses, total strangers, and their own congregation! Suffice it to say that only the Lord could have accomplished such a task, in such a way.

On June 10, 2001 Dothan Community Church dedicated their 9500 sq. ft. facility on 9+ acres of prime real estate with no mortgage, all to the glory of God. The Word is true that God “…is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think…” (Philippians 3:20b).

As the ministry continues to expand the Lord continues to provide in both facilities and staff. Currently an 18,000+ sq. ft. children’s addition (His Place) is under construction with a portion scheduled for occupancy later this year. We have also recently added two full-time staff members as a Youth Pastor (Jesse Nelson) and Children’s Ministry Coordinator (Ric Hamic).

From this vantage point, looking back to a medical school prospect responding to God’s call to the ministry in 1980, one can only say, “To God be the glory, great things He hath done!”
